Yvonne van Amerongen

Yvonne van Amerongen is one of the founders of the vision on normal life for people with dementia and founder of The Hogeweyk®. Yvonne is now retired.

Background

From 2015 Yvonne van Amerongen was part of the Be Advice team as Senior Advisor and supported other organisations around the world in their development towards excellent care and a normal life for people with dementia. Yvonne has spoken at numerous leading (care) conferences and events around the world. Yvonne is now retired.

In 1992, she was the care manager of the traditional nursing home Hogewey. In that year, the management team of Hogewey nursing home started thinking about the vision of care for people with severe dementia. This vision was the basis for the development of what is now The Hogeweyk® in 1993. Yvonne was project leader and one of the founders of the vision of normal life for people with dementia.

Yvonne van Amerongen was trained as an occupational therapist and social worker. Before 1983, when she started at the Hogewey nursing home, she worked in a psychiatric hospital and a rehabilitation centre.
