Fascinating
The elderly as consumers
Consumer behaviour has fascinated me from an early age. What would you want when you get older? How would you want to live? Who is happy living in an institution, and who isn’t? The elderly as consumers. The multidisciplinary master’s in Consumer Sciences at Wageningen University & Research (with a focus on management, economics and sociology) was a logical addition to my studies in Facility Management. For years, I have been working with this experience and a lot of dedication to improving the quality living and the living environment for elderly consumers with and without dementia. I want to create a tangible and visible level of quality and joie de vivre as a choice, in addition to good care and support. An alternative to an institution.
Founder of The Hogeweyk®
When I joined the Hogeweyk team in 2002, which included Jannette Spiering and Yvonne van Amerongen (the visionaries of normal living for people with dementia), our assignment was to always ask ‘why’. We developed the world-famous Hogeweyk as a project team. I was responsible for day-to-day operations as a manager until 2015. I am available for advice and support based on that experience and many newly completed international projects. I will inspire and challenge you to come up with your own vision, and then support its development and implementation.
Guilty pleasure
Maastricht
I was born and raised in what I consider the most beautiful region of the Netherlands—the hilly landscape of the province of Limburg. I thoroughly enjoy hiking through the rolling and varied landscape. Hiking, preferably in mountainous terrain, is my favourite hobby. I find it’s a great way to calm my highly active mind for a while. I have been living in Hoorn, West Friesland for a long time, but I still celebrate the famous Maastricht street carnival every year in my pekske (traditional carnival costume) with family and friends. It’s my guilty pleasure.
