In the world of care and welfare, I am your enthusiastic guide. With years of experience in direct care, I have come to know and appreciate the power of a clear vision. I connect the innovative vision of The Hogeweyk® care concept with daily practice and inspire you to form your own ideas. Together, we develop and implement a vision that truly works. Let yourself be challenged and supported on this journey to better care!

From Hospital Dream to Care Passion

As a child, a stay in the hospital sparked something special in me: I also wanted to wear such a beautiful uniform, just like the kind nurses who took such good care of me. And so began my journey in care. I proudly obtained my nursing diploma and started working in a hospital in my home country. After ten years of hard work in the hospital, adventure called me to The Netherlands. And where did I end up? In elderly care, and more specifically, in the world of dementia. Not quite planned, but as they say: life sometimes has surprises in store for you!

From Uniform to Normal Life

The transition to elderly care did not happen overnight. It required adaptability and an open mind. Instead of sticking to protocols and rules, I learned to base my work on the idea of ‘normal living’. I discovered that it wasn’t the beautiful uniform that attracted me, but the personal attention I once received from those nurses. And that is exactly what I tried to offer to elderly people with dementia for years working as a caregiver in The Hogeweyk: a life that remains as normal as possible, even in a nursing home. And let’s be honest, what is more beautiful than bringing a smile to someone’s face in a world that can sometimes be so confusing?

A Journey Full of Challenges and Joy

Change does not come without challenges. That is exactly what drives and motivates me to find creative solutions for complex questions and issues. I love to push the boundaries of what is possible, and if necessary, stretch those boundaries a bit. I have many years of practical experience as a caregiver, vision trainer and caregiver ambassador. Additionally, I was a member of the works council for many years, where I advocated for the interests of employees. This broad experience has not only given me valuable insights into (dementia) care, but also into the functioning of care organizations. From these experiences, I want to inspire and support others in promoting a positive work culture and creating a world in which people with living with dementia can thrive.

Small Things That Make a Difference

And yes, I love to laugh! Because ultimately, it is those small moments of joy that make the difference. I cherish my relationships with family and friends, and I know that as long as you have people around you who are there for you, everything will always be okay.
